Brush off your lederhosen and mark your calendar: the 25th annual Oktoberfest is scheduled to return to Redstone Arsenal Sept. 16-19.

Featuring authentic German beer, brats, music and carnival rides, the festival is one of the Arsenal’s most popular family events, attracting as many as 15,000 or more attendees, said Stephanie Stone, marketing director at Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

The 2020 Oktoberfest, which would have been its 25th consecutive year, was canceled due to COVID-19, so this year that silver anniversary will be celebrated.
“We are extremely excited to be able to bring this highly anticipated festival back this year,” Stone said. “Things are looking up and we know the community is ready to gather outdoors with their family and friends and enjoy good food, conversation and entertainment.”

Traditionally kicked off with the tapping of a keg of beer to the sound of polka music, Oktoberfest has something for everyone, including authentic German food and music for adults, and carnival rides, games and cotton candy for children.
Details such as admission price, hours and bands are yet to be determined.

“We are currently in the planning stage so we have no specific details to share right now,” Stone said, “but I can tell you that Redstone MWR will deliver on all the fun you can handle in a safe environment, especially since we are celebrating the big 25!”

Admission prices will, as always, include free carnival rides, entertainment and parking.

The Oktoberfest is open to the general public without an access badge to the Arsenal, Stone said, but drivers must show identification and may be asked to show proof of registration and automobile insurance.
