Hope, the Wombat, was usually put in Elsa, the Koala’s enclosure to keep them both entertained. The two adorable animals become best friends in no time! Also, the wombat is the most similar species to the koala, so the pair bonded instantly.

The Australian Reptile Park shared an adorable video of the Koala and Wombat on their Facebook page. The video was captioned, “ELSA THE KOALA AND HOPE THE WOMBAT BEST FRIENDS.”

Hayley Shute, the Australian Reptile Park Curator, said, “Elsa is just a bit over one year old now and it’s been an amazing experiencing watching the world love her as much as I do.”

Hayley also added, “Hope is a little ray of sunshine and we just knew the two of them would enjoy getting to know each other! It makes for one cute video that’s for sure! It’s a very special friendship these two have formed and I can’t wait to see it continue to blossom,”

“Elsa and Hope are great ambassadors for Australian wildlife and our wildlife needs all the help it can get. Australia has the worst mammal extinction rate on the planet. Our iconic koala is sadly experiencing a large decline in numbers due, in part, to the tragic bush fires we had earlier this year and they’re on the trajectory to be extinct in the wild by 2050,” she concluded.

Hope, the wombat, was often placed with Elsa in her enclosure. The two interacted with each other and bonded instantly. The keepers at the Australian Reptile Park also mentioned that Hope and Elsa share an Eskimo nose kiss daily!

Furthermore, the park has finally opened so visitors can meet Elsa and Hope in person. The park will be taking precautions and strict safety measures have been put in place to maintain social distancing.
